Small Group Testimony by Tammy Willis Morin

I can’t go in. Maybe I should have stayed home. I will be the oldest and most inexperienced. Who do I think I am coming here?

These thoughts and many more swirled in my mind as I walked up the street and approached the house.
I gingerly open the door and I hear some talking and gently laughter.  I walk in, towards the laughter.

This is where it began and for me where things changed.

After weeks of planning finally some Tri-State P31 sisters were going to meet and share in each other’s fellowship. The whole time leading up to this I was so excited, it was like Christmas for me. I have for some time longed to connect with other Christian women who were also photographers. Finally it was happening. While I was so excited I was also nervous, anxious, and scared. Nervous I wouldn’t fit in, anxious about my experience and scared that they would see me as a fake and that they would say your work isn’t good enough, you aren’t good enough.

But just the opposite happened. I was welcomed, far beyond what I could have hoped for. My level of experience, age, and self doubts were all welcomed and were meet with the same doubts that others had. I was not alone. That knowledge is one of the many revelations I took away that weekend.

That weekend was like an old school HS sleep over. Plenty of junk food, staying up late, talking, LOTS of talking and some tears. All in the name of our savior, how glorious is that! Even though some of us had never met it was like we already knew each other, oh the power of Facebook.  Here was a moment where you could open up and share anything, everything. Good, bad and all that in between. This time strengthened me and my soul. It made me realize that even when you feel alone you are not and god will show that to you one way or another, luck for me he showed me through these wonderful woman.

Their confidence in me even though we just meet was so heartfelt. How could they be so sure if I was not? They were because god is confident in all of us and he was using this experience to bond us and show us that we are really never alone. That weekend I learned that I am good enough and my work is good enough. Not everyone is going to like your work and that is  OK but someone will, someone will value you. That weekend made it ok for me to scream, “I am a photographer!!” ( Thanks Fueza!).

I have made connections with these woman that I feel still. Friendship that I pray continue and what I hope will be the beginning of an annual event.

So naturally, Kacey + photography + our mutual love of Jesus = me saying “You MUST join us at Pursuit 31″.  So Kacey jumped in to our little community and the rest is history.

We asked some of the ladies for feedback after our very first Small Group meeting last month. Kacey was the first to offer to tell her story below.  Thank you so much Kacey!

Once upon a chilly, early spring weekend in March, a group of somewhat strangers, otherwise known as the Tri-State P31ers, embarked on a journey – one of fellowship, of discovery, of learning, of practice, of sisterhood, of so many things, words can barely do it justice.

Angelsea Urban of Creative Eye Photography and leader of the Tri-State group, who by the way is also a truly amazing woman of God, a gifted and called photographer and teacher and a dear friend, facilitated this weekend experience for all of us.  And I know I am not alone in being eternally grateful to her for her generosity and her selfless spirit.  Angie, you are a true gem.

Angie’s vision was to have the group of us gather in Cape May for a Victorian Couture styled shoot on Friday followed by a weekend full of whatever else everyone wanted to do.  I will be honest, I didn’t know what to expect.  I was brand new to the P31 community, had barely even posted to the group a few times by the time the weekend was approaching and just didn’t know how all these women would fare in a house all together for a weekend.  I think secretly, I was preparing myself for drama just incase there was any and had already decided on my exit strategy if things got too awkward.  But God had other plans, as he usually does.

Not only was the weekend FREE of drama, but I can honestly say that I experienced for the first time in a long, long time being in exactly the place I was supposed to be in with exactly the people I was supposed to be with doing exactly what I was supposed to be doing.  And I was at peace, and I was at ease, and I was connecting, and I was being blessed and encouraged, and I was being convicted and comforted, and I was being loved and loving a group of God’s daughters, my sisters…and it just felt so right, because it was.

Sure the photo shoot was awesome and I learned so much about photography…but I also learned so much more about God’s unique and perfect calling on women, creative women, creative women photographers, as individuals but also as a community – where iron sharpens iron and love always wins…and if Anne Shirley was here, I would tell her that I too believe in kindred spirits…because I now know 10 of them and my life will never be the same again…thank GOD

Small Group Leader Vision Statement

We long to see P31 Small Group Leaders pouring their hearts into the lives of the women around them…Loving on them, inspiring them, and sharing life together. Small Group leaders are the hands and feet of Pursuit 31. These women will take ownership of the local small group through the tool of monthly meet ups,. They will set the tone for real life friendships, built on cheering one another on as Christ followers, wives and mothers, and photographers.

Small Group Leader Expectations & Guidelines

Small Group Leaders are basically the hands, feet & face of Pursuit 31 in our local photography communities. The following may seem like common sense, but need to be clearly communicated. As amazing as all the Small Group Leaders are and it is a GIVEN that will we have a blast together, this is more than just a club for the “cool” girls. We are here to serve and love others.

Be an active member of a local body of Christ followers (church).
Available to participate in Small Group leader on-line activities/trainings as needed (online live chats or Skype, possibly quarterly).
Available to coordinate and attend monthly local meet-ups on a consistent basis.
Be a positive influence and active member of the main Facebook P31 Group
Be actively in communication with the P31 Small Group Leader Community via the FB P31 Small Group Leader Group
Be willing to field general Pursuit 31 inquiries by email, phone or Facebook, about P31 in your local region and as well as large scale P31 events (even if you are not attending said event…basically stay informed and willing to share the info).
Live your life with solid character, integrity and honesty, both personally and in business.
