Divine Rest

Psalm 62

 1 Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
2 Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

After reading this passage I very simply asked myself today, “Does my soul truly find it’s rest in God?” I think it is a question that we all at one point and probably even at multiple points in our lives must ask ourselves. Why? Because we can find rest in so many other things. That word “rest” means to wait in silence for God. What a fantastic question to challenge ourselves with. How many of us wait in silence for God? Think about it…when you ask God for an answer to something, do you just WAIT in silence for his reply? Do you wait without an agenda, without looking at your watch constantly? Do we trust God enough to be able to REST even in HIS silence towards us? Or are we too anxious that we cant even think about resting while we wait? Are we too bombarded with our own agendas that we don’t even know how to stop, wait and rest in God’s silence.

You see David had it right. David somehow loved God enough, trusted God enough, and believed God enough that his soul rested and waited in silence for His God even through some of the toughest times of his life. He knew where his salvation came from, so he didn’t have to abide in a state of anxiety. David knew who his Rock was, and who his salvation was.

So here is the challenge, simply put, let’s rest. Rest in God’s love, rest in God’s faithfulness, and rest in God’s peace. We need to force ourselves to remember the God we serve and believe that He has our back. The scripture says he neither slumbers nor sleeps, so just like my Pastor used to say, “If he neither slumbers nor sleeps, then there ain’t no use in both of us staying up!” We have to learn to rest in God, and that means even if we have to wait in silence for our answer, for our deliverance, or for our breakthrough. We must wait and believe that He is who He said He is and will do what He said He would do. So today hear the voice of your Savior telling you, “Rest my child, Rest. Even in my silence, rest. I hear you. I see you and I love you. So even though you can’t see your answer right now, know that I will never leave you nor forsake you, and that your answer is coming. So rest my child, just REST. “
