P31 Conference Speakers ~ Getting to know Desirea Rodgers!!!

It is with great pleasure that I get to introduce this next speaker to you…. She is more to me than she will ever know and inspiration in the purest form.  My sis, Desirea Rodgers.  Well… technically she is my hubby’s sister but we ditched formalities years ago.  Since both of us only have brothers we became attached to each other pretty quick and she has been My Sis ever since.

Desirea is humility and grace all wrapped up in one amazingly talented and quirky package.  You would never know upon meeting her all that she has walked through and accomplished.  It’s just not in her to boast.   But in reality she has done bigger things than most could in 3 lifetimes. Her heart is pure gold and she cares for others at a seriously convicting level.  I simply adore her.   Love you girly! xoxo, Karen

Penny Bird | Love 146

A little about Desirea ~ After several years of working in full time missions, Desirea co-founded Love 146 ( An organization that raises awareness and resources to combat child sex trafficking ).  She worked for several years as the Creative Director at Love 146 while also running her photography business Penny Bird.  Along with running PennyBird, she now freelances as one of Love 146′s Story Tellers.

What is your favorite thing to do on a free afternoon?

Go on adventures with my husband , walk, read, sit in a cafe

 

What is a random fact about you?

I met my husband in Iceland.

I’ve been in three bus accidents.

 

How did you get into Photography & Design?

It found me by surprise and joy.

 

What do you wish someone would’ve told you when you first started out?

Accept yourself, be kind to yourself.

 

What is your dream job or dream client to work with?

I have my dream job. I help people tell their stories. My goal is to do that better and better with each day.

 

What is your greatest fear?

Professionally, I would say my greatest fear is that I will settle.

What is your favorite part about your job?

That one moment when, if you’re very lucky, you look into someone’s eyes and you see a glimpse of who they are. It is a spot frighteningly and amazingly close to the heart of God.

What drew you to be a part of the Pursuit 31 Conference?

A women’s retreat, centered in God, while learning and growing from one another.

 

What are you excited to teach, share or experience with the women at the Conference?

I’m so looking forward to connecting with new friends and to learning from one another.

When God began to put the seed in me to start this Conference, I immediately knew that Desirea needed to be a part of it.   I wanted people to hear her story.   And I am delighted that she said yes.

As photographers sometimes it’s so easy to be consumed by the industry and get wrapped up in so many unimportant details.  How many clients have we booked, how many followers do we have, have I blogged, tweeted, face booked, instagrammed and commented today…. yada yada yada….

I wanted people to take a step back from that…. unplug from the industry’s pull and really listen.  For 4 whole uninterrupted, quiet, fun, pampering, inspiring days.  I want them to have time to listen.  Listen to that tug on your heart that you know you are supposed to act on.  The God whispers.    That IS His heart for us.   To do big things.  To change lives.  To leave a mark on this world.

That is what struck me so hard about Desirea, and what makes me overjoyed for you to hear at the Conference.  It’s that she listened to the whisper.  She heard that tug on her heart and she moved.  She didn’t back down or say she would start another day.  She said yes.  She took the step…. and she IS leaving her mark on this world.
