Pursuit 31 Retreats ~ Deborah Zoe’s Experience

I walked into a room full of in person strangers… online friends… and immediately knew I was at home. Immediately I felt welcomed into a group of sisters that little did I know, would change my life. Among them was Deborah Zoe. Her spirit and joy radiated throughout the room and I knew I’d found a friend for life. When I asked if people would share their experience from the Pursuit 31 retreat she was the first to jump at the chance. Admittedly I was not prepared for what she shared. She made me laugh, and cry, and instantly feel like I was back in that cozy New England living room. Love you girl… I couldn’t be more thankful to have you in my life.

xoxo Karen

So without further ado….The adorable Deborah Zoe ~

When my friend Alicia first told me that I needed to attended a Pursuit 31 retreat I was hesitant. Would it be worth my time away? Would it be worth my investment? Would it be right for me? Alicia had graciously offered to host a Pursuit 31 retreat in New Haven and was confident that I had to attend. I had never met Karen before and had only seen glimpses of what Pursuit 31 was so when Alicia originally asked me to go, I said no.

But no wasn’t good enough for Alicia. She persisted, and finally with the offer of free night away and some prayer, I decided that the right decision would be to go.

I remember that first night as we all gathered together for a pre-retreat meet and greet. A group of woman from all over the Eastern Seaboard, sitting around a small table in a cafe. We exchanged names, where we were from and I sheepishly nibbled on my sandwiches. I remember thinking, “Did I make a mistake? Should I really be here?” The night ended with hugs and smiles and promises to chat more in the coming days.

The morning of the retreat Karen sat in the living room of the grand home we were meeting at, greeting each girl by name as they entered. Her warmth filled the room as the women gathered around the fire place. I fully expected to jump right into the workshop but instead we began to introduce ourselves. I sat back and listened as each woman shared their heart. Their honesty, their passion, their humility, their love of Jesus, struck me to the core. Immediately all of my walls came crumbling down. In that moment, as we shared life together, I knew that this was exactly where I was supposed to be. As we prayed, worshiped and shared our faith together, I knew that this was something unique. This was something special.

I’ve attended photography workshops before, but never had I been struck so powerfully as I was by the Pursuit 31 retreat. I had never been given the opportunity to explore my faith and my gifting together. This retreat was completely different. This was a place for us to be free. Free to be unique in Christ, free to be who we truly were. God worked powerfully through those two days we spent together. I regained focus for my business and found a new confidence of the woman I am in Christ . I met some wonderful women who I now call dear friends and I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to be there.

I’m a firm believer that things happen for a reason. I’m so thankful for the way that God orchestrated circumstances so that I could attend the Pursuit 31 retreat. It was a life changing event that has shaped my future as a business woman. Looking back as I asked the question “Should I really be here?”, I can confidently answer YES

This is something I’ve been grapling over lately- how can I use my photography skills to glorify the Lord? How can I let Jesus shine through my business, minister to my clients, and manage to make a difference for the kingdom? I’d absolutely LOVE to attend the Indianapolis retreat! And you better believe I shared on Facebook :)

Yay!! What a wonderful opportunity! I just posted it on my personal wall and my photography fan page wall. I would love to get a seat at the San Diego retreat. It would be such an answer to prayer. I own MS Studio Designs Photography and although I’ve had the business for over a year, it’s been slow going- I could really use some help in the areas of marketing and branding.
I’m actually an interior designer (that’s what my degree is in) but I’ve always wanted to do photography and only hesitated because I didn’t think I could make it in such a big ocean of amazing talent. Right now though I have three little ones five and under and I could really use income that works around my family rather than the other way around.
I’ve been saving for a new lens for over a year and I just about have that fund up to the four hundred I would need if I registered today or tomorrow. Ah, decisions. Well regardless it would be lovely to get the spot either way and get to keep saving for the lens. Thank you so much for being willing to share your knowledge with us and creating a place for community to happen. God bless.

I shared this AMAZING link! I would be so blessed for a San Diego seat.

I would like to go because I am trying to find my identity, after 38 years, in Christ. To finally find a way to take my gifts and talents and honor Him, my family and myself. In the past year, I have started my own business (Grace & Joy Photography – named after my two daughters) and have sought to honor Jesus, and bring His Grace and Joy to my clients. The business is slowly growing, and it is difficult to find a balance between this, being a stay at home Mommy to my two daughters (ages 3 years and 15 months) and being the manager and administrator of my husband’s business. It would be such a blessing to be refreshed by other women of faith, renewed through fellowship, encouraged in my gift and refined through the talent and investment of others. What a humbling and amazing gift it would be to be chosen for this!

  4. Posted it! I’ve heard of you through a friend but this was the first time I’d checked out the blog. How fun to be with other sisters who want to better themselves! I’d go to the San Diego retreat :)

I posted on my wall! I’d love a seat in San Diego. :) I believe this retreat would really help me get my business on track. I spend most nights up at my computer, working on Photography, when I’d rather be hanging out with my husband, and I don’t know how to stop! THANK YOU so much for the opportunity to win a seat! xoxo <3

  6. So exciting! 6 weeks into this mommy thing and I’m spent! Kudos to working moms! We love our baby girl, but challenges are obvious. I feel spread pretty thin and would love to meet and develop friendships with all you sweet girls!

San Diego would be fabulous! I posted to my facebook!
I wouldn’t “like” to go I would LOVE it because I feel like I need to be around God’s people when it comes to photography and lately, I am not sure that I am hearing his voice clearly on what I should be doing. I love retreats. I love Christian women and I love photography. This would be right up my alley.
