Who is tired and weary this week? *raising my hand* I am. It seems like exhaustion loves to take over when you least expect it. Our days get busier and busier before we even realize it. Then it’s midnight or 1am when we are closing our computers and crawling into bed only to wake up and start our day just hours later and do it all over again. It wears on our bodies and minds. Stress and lack of sleep strains our relationships. Our digestion gets off and we become irritable or even sick.
Do you set aside one day each week just for rest? A set amount of time to just relax and simply be?
Even God took a rest after he created the earth and everything in it.
“By the seventh day God had finished his work. On the seventh day he rested from all his work. God blessed the seventh day. He made it a Holy Day Because on that day he rested from his work, all the creating God had done. This is the story of how it all started, of Heaven and Earth when they were created.” Genesis 2:2-4 MSG
God promises rest and recovery if we come to Him.
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me — watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30 MSG
“He energizes those who get tired, gives fresh strength to dropouts. For even young people tire and drop out, young folk in their prime stumble and fall. But those who wait upon God get fresh strength. They spread their wings and soar like eagles, they run and don’t get tired, they walk and don’t lag behind.” Isaiah 40:31 MSG
Are you tired, worn out, burned out? How can we pray for each other this week?
